Congresswoman Maxine Waters wants the US to avoid war at all costs with North Korea even if that means more or less being extorted by the hermit kingdom. “I think there’s some things that they want from us, and we have to find out whether or not we can work with them on the things that they’re asking for.”
What other way is there to describe what Waters is suggesting, if it isn’t extortion? She wants all diplomatic means utilized to avoid conflict, in other words they have a gun to the US and world body, so give them what they want or else!
Haven’t we been doing that, “give them what they want” aka Strategic Patience, since Bill Clinton was president? It doesn’t work. All those payoffs over the years was to keep them from getting the bomb, and yet here we are. Waters suggestion to continue status quo will not end well. Yes, we should avoid war at all costs, but we’ve been talking for over 20 years to avoid this very issue.
Maybe it’s time to really hurt them, economically, cut them off from everyone. Cut the power, food supply, etc off, even if it means the country falls into civil war. An internal uprising that results in regime change might be what is needed, because the alternative is bad for everyone.
